Project description

AI software engineer at X-energy, building enterprise systems where advanced nuclear meets artificial intelligence.

Before code, three years delivering heavy civil work for Kiewit: bridges, airfield slabs, and a $100M ship-lift drydock.

Founder of Badland. Catholic. Student pilot. Eagle Scout. Happiest on a trail in the Blue Ridge.

Sheet G-002: general notes, legend & abbreviations

General notes

  1. Find the real constraint before proposing a solution.
  2. All state shall be inspectable. If a person has to trust it, they have to be able to read it.
  3. Systems shall fail inside the boundary. Ambiguous routes fail closed.
  4. Work is not complete until it is verified in the field, after “done.”
  5. Evidence over adjectives. Quantities on G-001 are counted, not estimated, despite the title.
  6. Verify all dimensions in the field. Verify all model output in the logs.
  7. Do not scale drawings. The DIST command is for fun.
  8. Report discrepancies to the engineer by RFI (see Z-001) before proceeding.
  9. The contractor is an Eagle Scout. Leave the site better than you found it.
  10. The contractor practices guitar daily. Noise ordinance does not apply.
  11. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord (Colossians 3:23).

Read note 5 twice. All counts on these sheets come from public records and git history, regenerated on every build.

Alignment notes

  1. One foot of stationing is one year, so STA 20+26 reads 2026.
  2. Profile elevations are the ground under the work: the Piedmont, then sea level on the coast, then Maryland.

Structural notes

  1. Kiewit Infrastructure, project engineer, June 2021 to November 2024, Florida and South Carolina.
  2. Managed installation of six million pounds of reinforcement on a $100M ship-lift drydock with a 20-person ironworker crew.
  3. Finished the reinforcing operation three months early, cut waste from 10% budgeted to under 1%, and delivered more than $1M in combined savings.
  4. Also a bridge and roadway program, airport concrete repairs and a $250M industrial EPC project, run on cost-loaded Primavera P6 schedules and earned value.

Pilot notes

  1. Cole is a student pilot, working toward his private pilot certificate.

  2. He built Airspace Lab, a dependency-light Three.js trainer for terminal airspace: orbit it, slice it and probe it instead of memorizing a diagram.

  3. This set is lettered in B612, the typeface Airbus commissioned for cockpit displays, named for the Little Prince's asteroid. Saint-Exupéry flew the mail.

  4. Our Lady of Loreto has been patroness of aviators since 1920.

  1. Cole is Catholic. “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” Psalm 127:1 (NIV).

  2. “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” St. Augustine, Confessions 1.1.
